Alex SchatzbergAlex Schatzberg Originally from San Francisco, I first became serious about yoga when I moved to New York City. Growing up in Northern California, I had often heard about the benefits of yoga, but it wasn’t until a shift in my environment occurred that I was first drawn into a regular practice. Yoga offered me a sense of grounding, as the busy New York world rushed by.

My teachings come through the exploration of my own practice, steeped mainly in Jivamukti and Ashtanga in the tradition of Sri K Pattabhi Jois. I place a strong emphasis on the power of specificity in asana instruction and teach my students to make movements that are conscious, controlled and driven by the breath. As a teacher, it is simply my job to be a guide, helping students to make decisions that are right for their bodies.

“Through movement we create change. Consciousness thrives on change.” Anodea Judith
